US-FAA14 CFR 121.403
Training program: Curriculum
Read the official ruleAirlines operating under Part 121 must create and maintain a written training curriculum for each aircraft type they operate. This document serves as the blueprint for training both flight crew and dispatchers.
The curriculum must specify:
- All ground training topics, including emergency procedures
- Training devices and equipment that will be used (simulators, training aids, etc.)
- Detailed descriptions of every maneuver and procedure trainees will practice, clearly marking which ones happen in actual flight versus simulation
- Which flight simulators are approved for specific training tasks
- How many hours are allocated to each training phase
- Any FAA-approved reductions to standard training hours
This regulation ensures standardized, comprehensive training across the airline. It also creates accountability—the curriculum documents exactly what training each crew member should receive, making it easier for the FAA to verify compliance and for the airline to maintain consistent standards as it trains new personnel or transitions to new aircraft.
