US-FAA14 CFR 121.406

Credit for previous CRM/DRM training

Read the official rule

This regulation allows the FAA to give credit for Crew Resource Management (CRM) or Dispatcher Resource Management (DRM) training completed before certain dates, counting it toward the initial ground training otherwise required for Part 121 operations.

For flightcrew members, CRM training before March 19, 1998 may count toward initial requirements. For flight attendants and aircraft dispatchers, the cutoff date is March 19, 1999.

The FAA decides whether to grant credit by evaluating the quality of the previous training program—whether it was voluntary CRM/DRM training or part of an Advanced Qualification Program (AQP). The key is whether the training aids, methods, and procedures effectively meet the standards of an approved initial CRM/DRM ground training program.

In practice, this provision grandfathered in quality training that personnel received before these regulations took effect, avoiding unnecessary duplication while ensuring standards are met.
