Training courses using flight simulation training devices

Read the official rule

This regulation allows Part 121 air carriers to use flight simulation training devices (FSTDs) in their approved training programs, with specific requirements for full flight simulator (FFS) courses.

To use an FFS for training credit, the course must provide at least 4 hours at the controls with proper briefings, and cover either the procedures in Appendix F or line-oriented flight training (LOFT). LOFT must use a complete crew, include abnormal/emergency procedures, provide stall prevention training, simulate two representative flight segments, and allow pilots to demonstrate workload management, monitoring, leadership, and command skills. An appropriately qualified instructor must conduct the training.

If the training program includes approved FFS courses under certain sections, the standard programmed flight hours don't apply. Additionally, carriers subject to windshear training requirements must use an approved FFS for windshear training in their pilot courses.
