Flight time limitations: One or two pilot crews

Read the official rule

This regulation sets flight time limits for pilots flying one- or two-pilot crews in flag operations (international and certain long-distance flights).

Pilots may be scheduled for up to 8 hours of flight duty in 24 consecutive hours without a mandatory rest break. If scheduled for more than 8 hours, they must receive a rest period at or before the 8-hour mark—this rest must be at least twice the hours already flown, with an 8-hour minimum. After flying more than 8 hours in any 24-hour period, pilots must get at least 18 hours of rest before any further duty.

Additional limits include:

  • Maximum 32 flight hours in any 7 consecutive days
  • At least 24 consecutive hours off duty once every 7 days
  • Maximum 100 flight hours per calendar month
  • Maximum 1,000 flight hours per 12-month period

These limits ensure pilots receive adequate rest to maintain alertness and safety during extended international operations.
