US-FAA14 CFR 121.483

Flight time limitations: Two pilots and one additional flight crewmember

Read the official rule

This regulation sets flight time limits for flag operations (typically international flights) when the crew consists of two pilots plus at least one additional flight crewmember.

The certificate holder cannot schedule a pilot for more than 12 hours of flight time in any 24-hour period. If a pilot flies 20+ hours in 48 consecutive hours or 24+ hours in 72 consecutive hours, they must receive at least 18 hours of rest before any duty. Additionally, every pilot must get at least 24 consecutive hours of rest within each seven-day period.

Longer-term limits also apply:

  • Maximum 120 flight hours in any 30 consecutive days
  • Maximum 300 flight hours in any 90 consecutive days
  • Maximum 1,000 flight hours in any 12-calendar-month period

These limits help prevent pilot fatigue on extended international operations by ensuring adequate rest between demanding flight schedules and capping cumulative flight time over various periods.
