Flight time limitations: Crew of two pilots and one additional airman as required
Read the official ruleThis regulation sets flight time limits for supplemental operations (like charter flights) when the crew consists of two pilots plus at least one additional required flight crewmember (such as a flight engineer).
The certificate holder cannot schedule crew members for more than 12 hours aloft in any 24-hour period. After flying 20+ hours in 48 consecutive hours or 24+ hours in 72 consecutive hours, crew members must receive at least 18 hours of rest before any duty. Additionally, every crew member must get at least 24 consecutive hours off duty within each seven-day period.
Maximum flight time limits are:
- 120 hours in any 30 consecutive days
- 300 hours in any 90 consecutive days
These rules prevent fatigue by capping both daily scheduling and cumulative flight time while ensuring adequate rest periods. They apply specifically to the crew configuration described—operations with different crew sizes have different limitations under other regulations.
