Prohibition on interference with crewmembers
Read the official ruleThis regulation makes it illegal for anyone to assault, threaten, intimidate, or interfere with crewmembers while they're doing their jobs on aircraft operated under Part 121 (scheduled air carrier operations). This applies to all crewmembers—pilots, flight attendants, and other required crew.
The rule protects crewmembers so they can safely perform their duties without disruption. Interference includes physical acts, threats, intimidation, or any behavior that prevents crew from doing their jobs, whether it's flying the aircraft, conducting safety procedures, or managing the cabin.
Violations are serious federal offenses that can result in criminal prosecution, substantial fines, and imprisonment. Passengers who interfere with crew can also face civil penalties from the FAA and may be banned from flying. This regulation is a key tool for maintaining safety and order aboard commercial flights, where crew authority is essential for protecting everyone on board.
