Continuing qualification curriculum
Read the official ruleThis regulation establishes the ongoing training and evaluation requirements for personnel qualified under an Advanced Qualification Program (AQP).
The continuing qualification cycle divides training into evaluation periods where all personnel—including pilots, flight attendants, dispatchers, instructors, and evaluators—must receive position-specific ground and flight training to maintain proficiency. Training covers normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures, plus updates on new procedures and safety information.
Evaluation requirements vary by position. Pilots in command must complete proficiency evaluations each period and line checks in actual operations at the cycle's midpoint (or through an FAA-approved "no-notice" line check program where at least 50% of captains receive unannounced checks yearly). All crewmembers are evaluated on their ability to perform duties and work effectively as a team.
The regulation ensures that AQP-qualified personnel don't just maintain their initial qualifications but continuously demonstrate competence in their operational roles.
