US-FAA14 CFR 135.291
Applicability
Read the official ruleThis regulation introduces Subpart G of Part 135, which covers the training and checking requirements for pilots and flight attendants working for commuter and on-demand air carriers.
The subpart does two main things:
- Sets the standards for what tests and checks pilots and flight attendants must complete, and establishes how check pilots (the people who evaluate other pilots) get approved
- Allows outside training providers from Part 142 training centers to conduct this training and testing under contract, as long as those instructors meet specific qualifications listed in §§135.337 and 135.339
In practice, this means Part 135 operators can either train and check their crews in-house or hire qualified training centers to do it for them. The exception reference to §135.3 means certain operations (like helicopter air ambulance flights under specific conditions) may have modified requirements.
