Crewmember training requirements

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes what Part 135 operators must include in their crewmember training programs. Every program must provide:

Initial training for new hires covering crew duties, relevant FARs, the company's operating certificate and specifications (pilots only), and operating manual procedures. This also includes the specific training outlined in other sections for emergency procedures, crew resource management, and aircraft-specific ground and flight training.

Ongoing training including transition training when moving to new aircraft or positions, recurrent training to maintain proficiency, and upgrade training when advancing from second-in-command to captain.

Continuous proficiency training to keep crewmembers current in their specific aircraft, position, and operations, plus training on any new equipment, procedures, or aircraft modifications.

The regulation essentially requires operators to maintain comprehensive, structured training programs that cover everything from a crewmember's first day through their entire career, ensuring they remain qualified and proficient.
