US-FAA14 CFR 135.343

Crewmember initial and recurrent training requirements

Read the official rule

This regulation requires that all crewmembers complete initial or recurrent training within the preceding 12 calendar months before they can serve in Part 135 operations. The training must be appropriate for the specific type of operation the crewmember will perform.

The "12th calendar month" means training remains current through the end of the month, 12 months after completion. For example, if you complete training in March 2024, it remains valid through March 2025.

Importantly, this requirement doesn't apply to single-pilot operations—if a certificate holder only uses one pilot for their operations, that pilot is exempt from this specific training timeline requirement.

This ensures crewmembers maintain proficiency and stay current on procedures, but recognizes that single-pilot operators may have different training arrangements. Both the certificate holder and the individual crewmember are responsible for compliance; neither can allow service without proper training currency.
