Recurrent training

Read the official rule

This regulation requires Part 135 operators to provide recurrent training to all crewmembers to maintain proficiency. The operator must ensure each crewmember stays adequately trained and current for their specific aircraft and position.

Recurrent ground training must include a knowledge quiz or review, plus instruction in subjects from initial training as needed—covering areas like low-altitude windshear, ground icing operations, crew resource management, and emergency procedures.

For pilots, recurrent flight training must cover the maneuvers and procedures required by this subpart. However, there's a practical alternative: successfully completing the proficiency check required by §135.293 within the past 12 months can substitute for the recurrent flight training requirement.

This regulation ensures Part 135 crewmembers don't just meet initial training standards but maintain their skills and knowledge throughout their careers. The substitution provision recognizes that a recent proficiency check demonstrates current flight competency.
