Small transport category airplane performance operating limitations

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes which performance rules apply when operating small transport category airplanes under Part 135, with different requirements based on engine type.

For reciprocating (piston) engine airplanes, you must comply with:

  • Weight limitations (§135.365)
  • Takeoff limitations (§135.367, except one specific provision)
  • Landing limitations (§135.375 and §135.377)

For turbine engine airplanes, you must comply with:

  • Takeoff limitations (§135.379, with two exceptions)
  • Landing limitations (§135.385 and §135.387)

This matters because it determines which specific performance calculations and restrictions apply to your flight planning and operations. The regulation acts as a roadmap, directing you to the appropriate detailed requirements based on your aircraft's powerplant type. You must consult those referenced sections to understand the actual weight, takeoff, and landing limitations that apply to your specific operation.
