US-FAA14 CFR 135.419

Approved aircraft inspection program

Read the official rule

This regulation allows Part 135 operators to use a customized aircraft inspection program instead of the standard Part 91 inspection requirements. The FAA may require or approve such a program when standard inspections are inadequate or when the operator requests one—but only if the operator has exclusive use of at least one aircraft of that make and model.

The operator must submit a detailed program for FAA approval that includes:

  • Specific inspection procedures covering all aircraft components and emergency equipment
  • A schedule based on flight hours, calendar time, or system operations
  • Procedures for documenting and addressing discrepancies

Once approved, the program goes into the operator's manual, and all affected aircraft (listed by registration number in the operations specifications) must follow it. The FAA can require program changes if needed for safety, though operators may petition to reconsider such changes except in emergencies.
