Hazardous materials training records

Read the official rule

This regulation requires Part 135 operators to maintain training records for anyone who handles or supervises hazardous materials functions. Records must cover all training from the past three years and be kept during employment plus 90 days after the person stops performing those duties.

Records must be available at the work location (electronic records are acceptable) and include: the person's name, training completion date, description of training materials, the training organization's details, and a copy of the completion certificate showing the person passed a test.

For new hires working under the temporary exception (§135.505(b)), operators must keep a separate record with authorization for the exception, hire/job change date, the person's name and function, supervisor's name, and the deadline for completing required training.

These requirements apply to direct employees, contractors, and subcontractors alike, ensuring the operator can demonstrate compliance with hazardous materials training requirements during inspections.
