Aircraft and facilities for recent flight experience
Read the official ruleThis regulation requires Part 135 operators (air taxi and commuter airlines) to make aircraft and facilities available so their pilots can stay current and demonstrate proficiency in all operations they're authorized to perform.
In practical terms, the company must provide access to:
- Aircraft or approved simulators for pilots to practice and maintain currency
- Facilities where pilots can complete required training and proficiency checks
- Resources needed for pilots to demonstrate competency in all authorized flight operations (different aircraft types, special procedures, etc.)
This ensures pilots don't lose authorization simply because the company failed to provide opportunities to stay current. The operator can't authorize a pilot for certain operations and then fail to give them the means to maintain those qualifications. This protects both pilot careers and safety by making currency maintenance the company's responsibility, not just the pilot's problem.
