Display of certificate

Read the official rule

If you operate a pilot school certified under Part 141, you must prominently display your pilot school certificate (or provisional certificate) where the public can normally see it without obstruction. Think of it like a restaurant displaying its health inspection grade—it needs to be visible to students and visitors in a common area, not hidden away in a back office.

Additionally, you must make the certificate available for inspection whenever requested by:

  • The FAA
  • NTSB representatives
  • Federal, state, or local law enforcement officers

This regulation ensures transparency and allows students to verify they're enrolling in a legitimately certified school. It also gives regulatory authorities and law enforcement immediate access to confirm your school's certification status during inspections or investigations. The public display requirement protects consumers, while the inspection requirement supports regulatory oversight.
