Satellite bases

Read the official rule

A pilot school can conduct training at satellite locations away from its main base, but must meet four conditions:

Staffing and supervision: Each satellite base needs a designated assistant chief instructor who must be available (in person, by phone, or electronically) whenever training occurs. All instructors must work under the direct supervision of either the chief instructor or assistant chief instructor, who must be readily available for consultation.

Standards: The satellite location's airport, facilities, and personnel must meet the same requirements that apply to the main base and match what's approved in the school's training course outline.

Notification: If training at a satellite base continues for more than 7 consecutive days, the school must notify the responsible FAA Flight Standards office in writing.

This regulation allows schools to expand their training footprint while ensuring students receive consistent, supervised instruction that meets the same standards regardless of location.
