Training requirements: Airplane category—multiengine class or multiengine airplane type rating concurrently with an airline transport pilot certificate
Read the official ruleBefore taking the ATP knowledge test for multiengine airplanes, you must complete an approved training course at an authorized provider (Part 121, 135, 141, or 142 school). This is commonly called the "ATP Certification Training Program" or "ATP-CTP."
The course requires at least 30 hours of classroom instruction covering aerodynamics, weather, airline operations, crew resource management, and related topics. You must also complete at least 10 hours in FAA-qualified flight simulators, including 6 hours in a Level C or higher full-flight simulator representing a multiengine turbine airplane over 40,000 pounds. This simulator time focuses on stall recovery, upset recovery, and adverse weather operations.
The remaining simulator hours can be in a Level 4 or higher device, covering navigation and automation systems.
You'll receive a graduation certificate from the training provider, which you must present when applying for the ATP knowledge test. Without completing this course, you cannot take the test.
