Knowledge tests: Cheating or other unauthorized conduct

Read the official rule

This regulation prohibits cheating on FAA knowledge tests. You cannot copy, remove, share, or receive test questions or answers. You cannot help others or receive help during a test, take a test for someone else, or use unauthorized materials. You also cannot assist anyone else in violating these rules.

If the FAA finds you've violated these prohibitions, you face a one-year ban from applying for any pilot certificate, rating, or authorization, and from taking any FAA tests. Additionally, any certificates or ratings you currently hold can be suspended or revoked.

This matters because knowledge test integrity is fundamental to aviation safety. The consequences are severe and can halt your aviation career for at least a year, plus potentially cost you certificates you've already earned. The regulation covers not just direct cheating but also helping others cheat, so stay clear of any questionable conduct during testing.
