US-FAA14 CFR 61.61
Applicability
Read the official ruleThis regulation introduces the section of the FARs that covers what happens *after* you already have a pilot certificate and want to add to it. It tells you where to look for the rules about:
- Adding new aircraft ratings to your existing certificate (like adding a multiengine rating to your private pilot certificate)
- Getting a type rating at the same time you earn a new pilot certificate level
- Special authorizations the FAA can issue that aren't full ratings
Think of this as the "table of contents" statement for adding credentials to your pilot certificate. If you're planning to expand what you're allowed to fly—whether that's a new category, class, or specific aircraft type—or if you need a special authorization for certain operations, the regulations in this subpart will tell you what you need to do to qualify.
