Enhanced Flight Vision System Pilot Requirements

Read the official rule

Enhanced Flight Vision System Pilot Requirements

To use an Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) during operations under § 91.176, you must complete FAA-approved ground and flight training specific to EFVS operations. Ground training covers regulations, system operation, sensor limitations, weather effects, and procedures. Flight training includes hands-on practice with EFVS setup, using it during all phases of flight, conducting instrument approaches below minimums, determining enhanced flight visibility, identifying required visual references, and transitioning from the EFVS display to natural vision.

You must maintain currency by logging six EFVS instrument approaches (one to a full stop landing) within the preceding six calendar months. If you let currency lapse beyond six months, you must complete an EFVS refresher course before resuming EFVS operations. Different EFVS operations require separate training—you can't use training for one type of EFVS operation to conduct another without additional instruction and endorsement.
