IFR takeoff, approach and landing minimums
Read the official ruleThis regulation sets weather reporting and minimum requirements for program aircraft operations (fractional ownership and similar programs) under IFR.
Before beginning an instrument approach, you must ensure the destination or alternate airport has an approved weather reporting facility, and you need a current local altimeter setting for the destination. If the destination lacks weather reporting, your alternate must have it.
The regulation adds 100 feet and ½ mile to standard minimums for turbine aircraft pilots in command with fewer than 100 hours in that aircraft type.
You cannot depart IFR when conditions are above takeoff minimums but below landing minimums unless an alternate airport is within one hour's flight time.
Finally, you must follow all applicable instrument procedures and minimums for the airport, and visibility must be at least 600 feet for takeoff unless your program manager's specifications authorize lower minimums for Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) operations.
