Flight time limitations and rest requirements: One or two pilot crews
Read the official ruleThis regulation sets maximum flight time limits for pilots operating under fractional ownership programs (Part 91 Subpart K).
Program managers cannot assign—and pilots cannot accept—flights that would exceed these limits:
- 500 hours in any three-month calendar quarter
- 800 hours in any two consecutive quarters
- 1,400 hours in any calendar year
Additionally, within any 24-hour period, total flight time (including all commercial flying) cannot exceed 8 hours for single-pilot operations or 10 hours for two-pilot crews.
These limits apply to all commercial flying the pilot does, not just flights for that specific program manager. The regulation protects against fatigue by capping how much pilots can fly over various timeframes. Note that paragraph (c) references additional duty period and rest requirements that continue beyond the excerpt shown, which would also apply to these operations.
