Crewmember training requirements

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes the training requirements that program managers (operators under Subpart K fractional ownership programs) must include in their crewmember training programs.

The training program must cover several components:

  • Initial training for new hires includes basic indoctrination on crew duties, relevant regulations, management specifications (for pilots), and operating manual procedures
  • Initial and transition training specific to aircraft type and operations (detailed in other sections)
  • Emergency procedures training
  • Recurrent training to maintain proficiency
  • Upgrade training when moving from second-in-command to pilot-in-command

Beyond these structured programs, operators must provide whatever additional training is necessary to keep crewmembers current and proficient in their specific aircraft, positions, and operations. This includes training on new equipment, procedures, and aircraft modifications.

In practice, this ensures fractional ownership program crewmembers receive comprehensive, ongoing training comparable to commercial airline standards, maintaining safety across all phases of their careers.
