Crewmember initial and recurrent training requirements

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes the training currency requirement for crewmembers operating under Subpart K (fractional ownership programs). Both the program manager and the crewmember share responsibility for ensuring training is current.

The key requirement: Crewmembers must complete initial or recurrent training appropriate to their specific type of operation within the preceding 12 calendar months before serving. The "12th month" language means training completed in January 2024, for example, remains valid through the end of January 2025.

In practice, this ensures crewmembers maintain proficiency and stay current on procedures, aircraft systems, and emergency protocols. The training must be tailored to the actual operations the crewmember will conduct. Program managers must track these dates carefully and ensure no crewmember flies beyond their training currency. If training lapses, the crewmember cannot serve in operations until completing the required recurrent training phase.
