US-FAA14 CFR 91.11

Prohibition on interference with crewmembers

Read the official rule

This regulation makes it illegal for anyone to assault, threaten, intimidate, or interfere with any crewmember while they're performing their duties on an aircraft in operation. "Crewmember" includes pilots, flight attendants, and anyone else with assigned duties aboard the aircraft.

The rule protects the safety of flight operations by ensuring crew can do their jobs without disruption. Interference could range from physical assault to verbal threats to simply preventing a crewmember from completing safety-critical tasks. Even seemingly minor actions that impede crew duties could violate this regulation.

Violations are taken seriously and can result in civil penalties from the FAA and criminal prosecution. This applies to all aircraft operations under Part 91, whether commercial flights, charter operations, or private flights. As pilot in command, you have authority to address any passenger behavior that interferes with your crew, and you're responsible for maintaining a safe environment where all crewmembers can perform their duties.
