US-FAA14 CFR 91.1107

Recurrent training

Read the official rule

This regulation requires program managers operating under Subpart K to ensure all crewmembers receive ongoing recurrent training to maintain proficiency in their specific aircraft and position.

Recurrent ground training must include a knowledge quiz or review, plus instruction in subjects from initial training as needed—particularly low-altitude windshear, ground icing operations, and emergency procedures.

Recurrent flight training for pilots must cover the maneuvers and procedures specified in this subpart. However, pilots can skip recurrent flight training if they've satisfactorily completed their required proficiency check (§ 91.1065) within the past 12 months.

In practice, this ensures crewmembers don't just get trained once and forgotten. They must regularly demonstrate knowledge and skills, keeping current with procedures and emergency responses. The substitution provision recognizes that a recent proficiency check already validates flying skills, avoiding redundant training requirements.
