Maintenance recordkeeping

Read the official rule

If you're a fractional ownership program manager, you must maintain aircraft maintenance records using the recordkeeping system described in your management specifications manual (required under § 91.1025).

The specific records you need to keep are those listed in § 91.417(a), which include:

  • Records of maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations
  • Records of the current status of life-limited parts
  • Records of time-in-service of the airframe, engines, propellers, and rotors
  • Records of inspections required by the aircraft's inspection program

You must retain these records for the time periods specified in § 91.417(b)—generally until the work is repeated or superseded, or for one year after the work is performed.

This regulation ensures fractional program managers maintain the same comprehensive maintenance documentation standards as other commercial operators, which is essential for tracking aircraft airworthiness and compliance with maintenance requirements.
