Special Federal Aviation Regulation No. 112—Prohibition Against Certain Flights in the Territory and Airspace of Libya
Read the official ruleThis regulation prohibits most flights in Libyan territory and airspace. It applies to:
- All U.S. air carriers and commercial operators
- Anyone exercising FAA airman certificate privileges (unless flying a U.S.-registered aircraft for a foreign carrier)
- Operators of U.S.-registered aircraft (unless the operator is a foreign carrier)
Exceptions: You may fly in Libya if operating under a U.S. government contract or with FAA approval/exemption. The FAA prioritizes requests supporting U.S. government activities first, foreign government activities with U.S. support second, and other operations third.
In emergencies requiring immediate action for flight safety, pilots may deviate as necessary. Non-Part 119/121/125/135 operators must report any deviation to their Flight Standards Office within 10 days (excluding weekends and federal holidays).
This prohibition remains in effect until March 20, 2028, unless the FAA modifies or extends it.
