Required pilot training

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes mandatory training requirements for anyone flying a Mitsubishi MU-2B turboprop aircraft. Before you can manipulate the controls, act as PIC, or serve as second-in-command, you must complete FAA-approved MU-2B-specific training (initial/transition, requalification, recurrent, or differences as applicable) and receive a logbook endorsement from a qualified instructor.

You must also complete annual recurrent training covering special emphasis items and a final phase check—this cannot be substituted with Part 135 competency checks or FAA WINGS proficiency programs. Training completed within the month before or after the due date still counts as on-time.

The regulation specifies detailed ground and flight training curricula, including at least 30 specific maneuver profiles ranging from normal operations to engine-out emergencies and instrument approaches. All training must use FAA-accepted MU-2B checklists and be conducted through an approved program, ensuring standardized proficiency in this aircraft's unique handling characteristics.
