VOR equipment check for IFR operations

Read the official rule

In plain English

To use VOR for IFR you must have checked its accuracy within the preceding 30 days. Acceptable checks include a VOT (±4°), a ground checkpoint (±4°), an airborne checkpoint (±6°), or a dual-VOR cross-check (within 4° of each other). Log the date, place, bearing error and your signature.

Key points

  • 30-day VOR accuracy check required for IFR use.
  • Tolerances: VOT/ground ±4°, airborne ±6°, dual-VOR within 4°.
  • Record date, place, error and signature.

Common pitfalls

  • Flying IFR on VOR with an out-of-date or undocumented check.
