Instruction, checking, and evaluation
Read the official ruleThis regulation sets strict qualification standards for anyone who instructs, checks, or evaluates pilots in the Mitsubishi MU-2B airplane—a high-performance turboprop with unique handling characteristics.
Flight instructors in the airplane must complete MU-2B-specific training, maintain currency, and have at least 2,000 hours pilot-in-command total time with 800 in multiengine aircraft. They also need either 300 hours PIC in the MU-2B (50 recent) or 100 hours PIC in the MU-2B (25 recent) plus 300 hours instructing in an approved MU-2B simulator (25 recent).
Simulator/flight training device instructors need the same 2,000/800-hour foundation plus either 50 hours recent MU-2B PIC experience or 50 hours recent simulator instruction in the MU-2B.
Designated pilot examiners and check airmen conducting checkrides must complete MU-2B training and, for checks in the actual airplane, have 100 hours MU-2B PIC time while maintaining currency.
These requirements ensure only highly experienced instructors teach in this demanding aircraft.
