Currency requirements and flight review

Read the official rule

This regulation establishes special currency and flight review rules for the Mitsubishi MU-2B turboprop airplane, which has unique handling characteristics.

For takeoff and landing currency under § 61.57, you must perform your landings specifically in an MU-2B—landings in other multiengine aircraft don't count. However, landings in either short-body or long-body MU-2B variants count for both models.

For instrument currency, you can use instrument experience from other aircraft categories and classes.

Flight reviews must be conducted in an actual MU-2B or an approved MU-2B simulator, and must cover Special Emphasis Items and Training Course Final Phase Check items from an approved MU-2B training program. A standard flight review in another aircraft won't satisfy this requirement.

If you complete Initial/transition, Requalification, or Recurrent training under § 91.1705 with at least one hour in the MU-2B or approved simulator, that satisfies your flight review requirement without needing a separate review.
