Emergency equipment
Read the official ruleThis regulation sets emergency equipment requirements for airplanes operating under Part 91. All required equipment must be inspected per §91.409, readily accessible to the crew, clearly marked for operation, and labeled with contents and last inspection date when stored in compartments.
Fire extinguishers are required based on airplane size: at least one on the flight deck (all airplanes), one in the passenger cabin for 7-30 passengers, and two for over 30 passengers. The extinguishing agent must suit the types of fires expected in each location, and extinguishers must be secured so they don't interfere with operations while remaining accessible.
First aid kits must be provided for treating injuries from flight or minor accidents.
Airplanes carrying more than 19 passengers need a crash axe.
Passenger airplanes need battery-powered megaphones for emergency evacuation: one for 61-99 passengers (rear location), two for 100+ passengers (forward and rear locations).
