Authorization for ferry flight with one engine inoperative

Read the official rule

This regulation allows air carriers and Part 125 operators to ferry four-engine airplanes or turbine-powered three-engine airplanes with one engine inoperative to a repair facility. The aircraft model must have been flight-tested to prove it's safe for this operation, and the flight must follow performance data in the Airplane Flight Manual covering weight limits, center of gravity, runway requirements, and operating procedures.

Key restrictions apply: the aircraft must carry minimum necessary weight, only required crew (no passengers), and takeoffs must be from dry runways unless wet runway operations are specifically approved. The initial climb cannot be over densely populated areas, and weather must be at least VFR at both departure and destination airports. Crew must be thoroughly familiar with one-engine-inoperative procedures. The regulation includes detailed flight test requirements for both reciprocating and turbine-engine aircraft to establish safe operating parameters.
