Letiště vzniklo z bývalého vojenského cvičiště 3. pěšího pluku. Plocha letiště je v majetku města Kroměříž. V areálu letiště se nachází i sídlo provozovatele Aeroklubu Kroměříž. Na letišti působí i Leteckomodelářský klub a Paraodbor Aeroklubu Kroměříž.
