Jet stream

A narrow band of strong winds in the upper atmosphere, typically found near the tropopause at altitudes between 20,000 and 40,000 feet. These high-altitude wind currents generally flow west to east and can exceed 200 knots, significantly affecting flight planning, fuel consumption, and flight times for high-altitude operations.
