Part 107 Recurrent Training
How a remote pilot keeps their certificate current — the 24-calendar-month recurrent training requirement and how it replaced the old recurrent test.
A Remote Pilot Certificate does not expire, but its currency does. To exercise the privileges of the certificate, a remote pilot must have completed recurrent training within the preceding 24 calendar months under 14 CFR 107.65.
Free online recurrent training
Since 2021 the recurrent requirement is satisfied by a free online training course, not a testing-centre exam. The current recurrent course is completed on the FAA's training platform; when you finish it you retain a completion certificate as evidence, which you must present on request.
Calendar months
As with other aviation currency, "24 calendar months" runs to the last day of the 24th month — recurrent training completed any day in May 2026 keeps you current through 31 May 2028.
What if you also hold a Part 61 certificate
Remote pilots who hold a [Part 61 pilot certificate](/certificates) meet the recurrent requirement by completing the drone-specific recurrent training online, the same as everyone else — a current flight review alone does not carry it.
Keep the paperwork
Carry (physically or electronically) your Remote Pilot Certificate and be able to show your recurrent training completion; both must be available for inspection when you operate. Getting the certificate in the first place is covered in getting your Part 107.
