Waiver policy and requirements

This regulation establishes the FAA's authority to grant waivers that allow drone operators to deviate from certain Part 107 rules. If you need to conduct an operation that doesn't comply with specific regulations listed in §107.205, you can apply for a waiver.

To request a waiver, you must provide a complete description of your proposed operation and demonstrate why it can be conducted safely despite not following the standard rule. The FAA will only approve your waiver if they determine the operation is safe.

If granted, your waiver will specify exactly which regulations you're allowed to deviate from and may include additional conditions or limitations you must follow. You're legally bound to operate within the waiver's specific terms—you can only deviate from regulations to the extent the waiver permits, and you must comply with any special conditions the FAA imposes.
