What are the privileges of my flight instructor certificate with a sport pilot rating?

Read the official rule

A flight instructor certificate with a sport pilot rating authorizes you to provide ground and flight training, conduct certain checks, and issue endorsements for sport pilot operations. You can train student pilots seeking sport pilot certificates, existing sport pilots, and even other sport pilot instructors. Your authority extends to powered parachute and weight-shift-control aircraft ratings, flight reviews, and proficiency checks within the sport pilot realm.

You can also prepare students for sport pilot knowledge and practical tests, and even for private pilot certificates specifically in powered parachute or weight-shift-control categories. Additionally, you're authorized to accept student pilot certificate applications and verify applicant identity and eligibility.

Importantly, you may receive compensation for this instruction despite some sport pilot limitations on paid flying. However, you cannot conduct operations requiring air carrier certificates or special FAA authorization. This certificate essentially makes you a professional instructor within the sport pilot training world.
