Change of address

Read the official rule

If you hold a pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor certificate and change your permanent mailing address, you must notify the FAA within 30 days. After that 30-day window, you cannot legally exercise your certificate privileges until you've updated your address.

Send written notification to the FAA Airman Certification Branch at P.O. Box 25082, Oklahoma City, OK 73125. If your mailing address is a P.O. box, you must also provide your actual residential address.

This matters because flying with an outdated address on file after the 30-day grace period technically grounds you until you comply. The FAA needs current contact information to send you important notices about your certificate, medical certificate updates, or regulatory changes. You can update your address through the FAA's online portal, by mail, or when renewing certificates—just ensure it's done within the required timeframe to avoid any interruption in your flying privileges.
