US-FAA14 CFR 91.126

Operating on or in the vicinity of an airport in Class G airspace

Read the official rule

In plain English

In Class G (uncontrolled) airspace at an airport, you must make all turns to the left unless the airport displays approved light signals or markings for right traffic. Comply with any traffic-pattern indicators.

Key points

  • Left traffic unless right traffic is indicated.
  • Class G has no ATC, but VFR weather minimums and pattern rules still apply.

Common pitfalls

  • Entering an opposite-direction pattern at a non-towered field.
