Density Altitude Calculator

Find pressure altitude and density altitude from field elevation, altimeter setting and temperature.

Pressure altitude
5,000 ft
Density altitude
7,364 ft
ISA temperature here is 5.1°C — you are +19.9°C from standard. High density altitude reduces engine, prop and wing performance.
How this works
  • Pressure altitude = elevation + (29.92 − altimeter) × 1,000
  • ISA temp = 15 − 1.98 × (PA ÷ 1,000) °C
  • Density altitude ≈ PA + 118.8 × (OAT − ISA temp)

High density altitude (hot, high, humid) degrades takeoff and climb performance. This is a standard approximation, not a substitute for your POH charts.
