Preferred IFR Routes

Enter a departure (and optional destination) to find FAA preferred IFR routes — the route strings ATC expects between common city pairs.

How this works

Routes come from the public FAA Preferred Routes Database (tower en-route, high- and low-altitude, and North American routes). Use 3-letter location identifiers (e.g. JFK, BOS) or an ICAO code. Not every pair has a published route — many longer routes are issued ad-hoc by ATC.

FAA preferred-route data is for reference and flight-planning familiarisation only — not for navigation. File and fly your cleared route. Not for navigation or flight planning — always verify against official current sources.
