It is located one nautical mile (2 km) east of the central business district of Los Alamos, New Mexico. This airport was included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility. It maintained this categorization in the 2025-2029 NPIAS.
